Czechia Schengen visa

🇨🇿 Hotel booking for a Czechia Schengen visa

Yes — the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists accommodation among the supporting documents for every Schengen visa application, and its accommodation page closes with the blunt sentence "Proof of accommodation must be submitted for a visa application to be accepted." A QR-verifiable hotel booking confirmation for your exact dates satisfies this — emailed as a PDF in under 60 seconds.

Czechia's short-stay visas are decided by the consular sections of Czech embassies and consulates general, all working from one national list of supporting documents published centrally by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at mzv.gov.cz — so the accommodation rule is worded identically whether you apply in Mumbai, Manama or Ho Chi Minh City. Lodgement is outsourced in a limited set of destinations: VFS Global runs the Czech visa centres in the large majority of them, and TLScontact in exactly two. Everywhere else — the United States, Canada and most of Europe included — you deal directly with the embassy or consulate general covering where you live, and the Washington embassy, for instance, takes short-stay appointments only by email at [email protected].

Does Czechia require proof of accommodation?

Yes — the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists accommodation among the supporting documents for every Schengen visa application, and its accommodation page closes with the blunt sentence "Proof of accommodation must be submitted for a visa application to be accepted."

What the consulate expects

Czechia does not use a single global vendor. On the Ministry's own "Outsourcing (Visa Centres)" page, last updated 5 June 2026, VFS Global collects applications across most outsourced destinations — India (13 cities), China (15 cities), Turkey (5 cities), Vietnam, South Africa, the Gulf states, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and London among them — while TLScontact operates Czech visa centres in only two places worldwide: Yerevan (since 3 June 2026) and Bangkok (since 13 August 2025, replacing VFS Global there). Kathmandu, Thimphu and Malé have their own VFS centres, but they fall under the New Delhi embassy's jurisdiction and use its India-based Czech VFS portal for checklists and booking. In destinations absent from the Ministry's list there is no visa centre at all and you apply at the embassy or consulate general directly.

The confirmation names every traveller, the Czech property and its full street address, and the exact check-in and check-out dates, so the consular officer can match it line-for-line against the dates of intended stay you entered on the Schengen application form. Consulates can and do contact the property to confirm a reservation, so it must be a booking the hotel will actually recognise.

Typical documents for a Czechia Schengen visa

Applications for a Czechia Schengen visa commonly include:

  • Completed Schengen visa application form with a recent passport photograph — the Czech Embassy in Washington specifies that the form may be filled in and printed online but must be signed in front of the visa officer, and VFS centres in India ask for two photos rather than one
  • Passport valid at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen Area, containing at least 2 blank pages, and issued within the past 10 years — the Ministry adds that it may not be older than 10 years even if an extension keeps it valid
  • Document proving the purpose of the trip — for tourism, a confirmed hotel reservation, a verified invitation or an itinerary; the intended stay must not exceed 90 days in any 180-day period
  • Proof of accommodation for the stay: hotel booking, hotel voucher, spa voucher, a private invitation giving the inviting person's name, address and the dates of the visit, or an official invitation verified by the Foreign Police Service (Alien Police)
  • Proof of sufficient financial means: at least CZK 1,565 per day for stays of 30 days or less; for stays over 30 days, CZK 46,950 plus a further CZK 6,260 for each full month
  • Travel medical insurance valid throughout the Schengen Area for the entire stay, with minimum cover of EUR 30,000 for urgent medical care, emergency hospital treatment, repatriation and death — a policy issued outside Czechia must be submitted with an official Czech translation of the policy and its terms, and the Washington embassy additionally requires no deductible

Frequently asked questions

Does Czechia accept a hotel booking, or does it want the stay paid for?
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists "hotel booking" and "hotel voucher" as two separate acceptable items on the same line, so a booking confirmation is on the published list in its own right — a voucher is an alternative, not an upgrade. What Czechia is unusually blunt about is completeness: its accommodation page ends with the sentence "Proof of accommodation must be submitted for a visa application to be accepted", which places it among the documents that decide whether your file is even taken in. It must cover the whole stay, and the consular officer keeps full authority to request more or to verify the reservation with the property directly — so book something the hotel will honour.
Is it VFS Global or TLScontact that handles Czech applications?
Both, but very unevenly, and it depends entirely on where you apply. VFS Global runs the Czech visa centres in the large majority of outsourced destinations, including all 13 Indian cities, 15 cities in China, five in Turkey, plus Vietnam, the Gulf states, South Africa and London. TLScontact runs Czech centres in only two places worldwide — Yerevan, which switched to TLScontact on 3 June 2026, and Bangkok, which switched from VFS Global to TLScontact on 13 August 2025. Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives applicants have local VFS centres administered by the New Delhi embassy. If your country is not on the Ministry's outsourcing list there is no visa centre and you apply at the embassy or consulate general directly. Check the Ministry's own outsourcing page before you travel to a centre — the vendor has changed twice in two years.
Why does the Czech list mention a "spa voucher"?
Because Czechia treats spa stays as a mainstream travel purpose, and the accommodation list reflects that: "spa voucher" (lázeňský voucher) sits alongside hotel booking and hotel voucher as an accepted document in its own right. If your trip is a course of treatment at one of the Czech spa towns, the voucher issued by the spa is your accommodation proof for the nights it covers, and you do not need a separate hotel booking on top of it. Any nights before or after the treatment still need their own proof. It is a line that appears on Czechia's checklist and on very few other Schengen states' lists.
Can an invitation replace the hotel booking?
Only the officially verified kind. Czechia distinguishes between an officially verified invitation — a set form provided and verified by the Alien Police Inspectorate district office for the area where the host permanently resides, under Act No. 326/1999 Coll. — and an ordinary free-style invitation letter. On the verified form the host undertakes to provide accommodation, or funds, or both, so it substitutes only for whichever of the two the host actually committed to; the host must mail you the original, which you attach to the application. A free-style letter proves the purpose of travel only, so you still need separate accommodation proof alongside it.
